Renato Amorim Torres

Dr. Renato Amorim Torres joined the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as an Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering in Fall 2026. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Prior to joining UNL, he worked as a Senior Researcher at General Motors Research and Development, where he led and contributed to research projects involving electric vehicle propulsion systems and advanced electrification technologies. At UNL, his research focuses on electric machines, motor drives, power electronics, and emerging technologies for transportation, manufacturing, and robotics.

Dr. Torres is passionate about hands-on engineering education and providing students with opportunities to develop practical skills through design, fabrication, testing, and experimentation. He believes that early exposure to real engineering projects helps students build confidence, technical skills, and a deeper understanding of how engineering concepts are applied in practice.
